CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
A new season of Champions League is just around the corner. Just two months ago Bayern Munich defeated PSG in Lisbon to complete their second treble.
Champions League the most prestigious European club competition is held every year to decide best club team across the continent. It was started way back in 1955 as "European Champion Clubs' Cup" where champions of domestic leagues across Europe participated in a straight knockout competition.
The competition was rebranded in 1992 as "UEFA Champions League" with addition of group stages and inclusion of multiple teams from certain countries. It became the first branded club competition in the world.
In its current format, 32 clubs(26 from different leagues and 6 from qualifiers) are divided in 8 groups of 4 teams each with 2 teams from each group qualifying for the knockout stages.
Since its inception 22 clubs have won the competition. Clubs from Spain have been most successful with 18 titles followed by clubs from England with 13 titles and clubs from Italy with 12 titles.
Real Madrid is most successful team, having won the trophy record 13 times including the inaugural trophy.
With every new season debate of who is goin to win the title starts, everyone starts supporting there favourite team.
Here are my predictions for this years tournament.
Group-A
Defending champions Bayern are favourite to top the group followed by Atletico Madrid. Salzburg and Moscow can give a tough fight but are less likely to qualify.
Atletico-Bayern will be the best match as both teams have very strong defense and a more stronger attack.
Group-B
King of UCL Real Madrid are firm favourites to qualify. For second spot it could be matchup between Inter and Monchengladbach, whoever wins their ties can grab the second spot.
Madrid-Inter will be a big game as these two giants will face off against each other after 11 years.
Group-C
This group shows what is the power of money. For third year running Manchester City has got the easiest possible draw to qualify for knockouts. Interesting would be to see who out of Marseille and Porto will grab the second spot.
Porto-Marseille will be the game to watch out for as this match would decide the second qualifying spot.
Group-D
2019-20 champions and Premier League winners Liverpool will most likely advance but interesting would be to see who out of Ajax and Atalanta will advance
Any match of Atalanta will be interesting to watch as they are goal scoring machine.
Group-E
Chelsea and defending Europa league champions Sevilla are firm to advance.
Chelsea-Sevilla match will be interesting as it would decide who would top the group.
Group-F
It is an interesting group as 3 of the four teams are capable to qualify for knockouts. Dortmund and Lazio will be favourite to qualify but Zenit can play a spoilsport.
Dortmund-Lazio will be a high goal scoring affair as both teams have very nice attacking tallent.
Group-G
IT IS RONALDO V/S MESSI.
The best ever group in UCL. It will have both the G.O.A.T's playing against each other maybe for last time. It will more or less also help to end "Ronaldo v/s Messi" debate. But whoever wins it would be interesting for fans to see their favourites against each other.
Ofcourse Barcelona-Juventus will be best match(of whole UCL) and ofcourse they would only advance to next round.
Group-H
It can be group of death as PSG, Manchester United and Leipzigare all equally poised to advance with PSG having a slight advantage.
PSG-Man. United will be interesting as would pit some former teammates against each other.
Of all the teams qualifying for Round of 16, I believe Bayern are the favourites to again lift the trophy as they literally the same team which lifted the trophy in August. But Juventus, Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, Liverpool and Manchester City are capable of dethroning Bayern from their throne.
VERDICT-
